Biblical Worldview Education

October 30, 2024

I must admit that a private Christian school education is a new way of doing school for me. I grew up in a public-school setting and have spent almost twenty years teaching, coaching and being an administrator in the public-school learning environment. The truth is that I love public school, and my family has benefited greatly from the schools and communities that I have been blessed to be associated with. Public school has served my children well and has prepared them to go on and be successful citizens who can be contributors to society as a whole. However, one thing they never received in public school was a Biblical foundation to build the rest of their knowledge on.

How we view the World is only meaningful if we view it through the lens of God’s Word. The subjects we teach in school only have value if we can use that knowledge to go into the World and glorify God with what we have learned. The Word changes our lives and impacts the way we view every situation and subject. My kids learned to use the Bible lens at home and at church as our family put an emphasis on Bible reading and church attendance/participation. In public school they were sometimes taught and often influenced by peers to view the World through a worldly lens that sought to contradict the Biblical principles they were being taught at home. As time went on, the worldly influence on our public schools increased exponentially. By God’s grace, my children were able to fend off the outside attacks and to this point have maintained consistency with their Biblical Worldview.

As I reflect on this and our current cultural drift from Godly principles, I come to the conclusion that my children should not have had to fight that battle. They deserved the chance to build their knowledge with the lens of God’s Word and not in absence of it. Over the next few posts, I hope to build the case from the Word of God for a Biblical Worldview Education. In doing so, I realize that private Chirstian Education is not for everyone and that there are definite obstacles that each family faces when evaluating that educational path. However, whether you choose public school, homeschool, or a private Christian school it is imperative that you supply your children with the tools necessary to view the World with a perspective from God’s Kingdom.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” - 2 Timothy 3:16-17
