Biblical Worldview Education Part 2

December 3, 2024

We must teach our children to live in the World by living in the Word.

As stated in my previous blog I hope to make the case for a Biblical Worldview Education for our children. It is not a case that is difficult to make as God’s Word instructs us on the importance of teaching our children the Word. The Word promises that if we “train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” - Proverbs 22:6 This training takes place at home first, then at Church, and then it can take place in an educational setting as well if your child attends school where a Biblical Worldview Education is emphasized. A parent can impact the lens through which a child views the World on an all-day everyday basis if their child is immersed in Biblical Worldview teaching daily.

In Deuteronomy 5 God reminds the people of the ten commandments and the instructions of the law. In Deuteronomy 6, verse 4, God gives instruction on how a person can go about living out the law in their daily lives. We are to love the Lord with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our strength. After giving these instructions look at what He tells the people to do. “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.”- Deuteronomy 6:6-8 These words, God’s Word, should be in your heart and you should be teaching them diligently to your children. These words should be at the forefront of your mind continuously. When? How about when you sit, when you walk, and when you lie down. I think that covers it all. So, it does not take too much extrapolation to state that our children need the same immersion in the Word. We should teach it to them, and they should be focused on it when they sit, walk, and when they lie down. “This is the way” (A Star Wars/Mandalorian fan will get this)

Too often we leave this immersion in the Word to chance. We hope that our time at Church will teach them enough to fight off the ways of the World. (Another blog/sermon could talk about our lack of dedication to Church as well. Maybe for another time.) This is not what the Bible instructs us to do. We must teach our children to live in the World by living in the Word. The Word must shape the things they experience so that it can impact their thoughts and actions. The Word will help them respond appropriately to the challenges they face. In the next post, we I will talk about how Satan seeks to destroy the things of God, and this includes your children. Our children must have the correct lens to see Satan’s attacks for what they are. There is no greater mission for you in your life than to “train your child in the way he should go” and teach them to hide God’s Word in their heart when they sit, walk, and lie down. - Dr. Jim Flora Ed.
